Don’t look now, but the tea leaves for the 2026 midterms are being read, and they look to be rather blue. Donald Trump’s poll numbers, on the other hand, ARE red, as he hits a historic low approval rating and the economy nosedives.
Time to log on.
Here is our obligatory warning that polls are not necessarily predictive of how an election is going to go, and we still have an uphill battle to retake the House and Senate in the face of a massive Republican gerrymandering scheme to rig the elections in their favor.

Wow, these polls are GREAT for Democrats!
Fox News just released a slew of new polls from battleground Senate races showing Democrats in the lead in races we previously thought were just a shot in the dark, like in deep-red Texas and Iowa.

Digging a little deeper, and we can see that Democratic inroads into red territory go even further than we thought:
But wait! There’s more! Blue Texas believers, hold on to your cowboy hats, because that same poll found former school president and current state Rep. Gina Hinojosa in a statistical tie with eleven-year incumbent Greg Abbott.

This is where it gets REALLY interesting. James Talarico is an incredible candidate, but he started his campaign with a few major advantages. His opponent, Ken Paxton, does not have an incumbency cushion, was forced to fight a vicious primary battle to get here in the first place, and is dragged down by a slew of scandals.
Gina was polling at 42% back in January and has climbed up to even things out with Greg Abbott, thanks to a campaign laser-focused on the issues that Texans really care about, like healthcare, the economy, and opposing AI data centers.
Democratic state auditor Rob Sand is also locked in a dead heat with carpet-bagging career political operative Zach Lahn in the race for Iowa’s governorship – a race in which Fox’s new poll shows Sand favored by 53 percent to 44%.
Again, do not get too excited, but the range of outcomes of the 2026 midterms now includes two governorship pickups, the House, and a 53-seat Senate majority.
And it’s only August.
They say a fish rots from the head down – which Democratic Alaska Senate candidate and lifelong salmon fisher Mary Peltola knows all too well – and the head of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, is about as maggoty as it gets.
Trump is all but the most unpopular president in American history (beaten only by Nixon in his final days) and he’s underwater on the most important issues to everyday voters: gas and the economy.
The American economy has slowed to a crawl, posting just 1.5% growth and a very tepid 57,000 jobs in the second quarter of 2026 – and may well get worse before it gets better as the aftershocks of Iran War II start to roll in.
To cap it all off, in his infinite idiocy, Trump has elected to make everything even worse, announcing a new slew of tariffs on 80 countries and pushing prices on basic sundries even higher while ending Medicare D subsidies, pricing out millions of seniors who need those drugs to stay alive.
So all these terrible numbers? They’re probably going to get a LOT worse by the time November rolls around.
The winds are blowing against the Republican Party, and we cannot afford to miss this opportunity to make sure Democrats retake both the House and Senate this fall – and start to put our country back together again.

Big money for the Democrats is with the establishment Democratic party operations. They don't want Democratic socialists gaining any influence because the money machine will reduce its support. So there is the conundrum, integrity or the bank account. Politics is no longer based on principles but power and power is represented by money. Without campaign finance reforms America will never recover from the malignant influence of the oligarchs. They purchase our government just as surely as we purchase the food we eat and the clothes we wear. If you want it changed be ready for the long haul of dedicated actions to be successful.
